Comhaltas Echoes of Erin

Saturday October 1 2016 - 7:30 PM
Comhaltas Echoes Of Erin

Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann’s Echoes of Erin Concert Tour of North America has been staging top-class shows of traditional Irish music, song, dance and entertainment for over four decades.

This fast-moving show merges the most soulful of detailed solo artistry with lighter ensemble music while the dancers step it out to a wide variety of rhythms. Traditional songs of Ireland and the Diaspora tell the story of the Gael in both sombre and joyous mood. Fear A’ Tí Dic Béimis once again brings his much lauded style of wit, humour, and narrative to the stage.

Philip Sayce

Thursday November 18, 2016 - 8:00 PM
Philip Sayce

Influence is an apt title for an album from arguably the most underheralded guitar hero on the circuit. Philip Sayce, the Welsh born axe hero, came of age in Toronto, Canada during the 90s and was weaned on such guitar heroes as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Healey and Mark Knopfler. I have such distinct memories listening to these incredible musicians, Sayce says. Their music had a huge effect on me.

Hence, the title Influence. Sayce knocks it out of the park with an array of visceral covers and inspired originals. The blues guitar whiz is wise enough to realize that it doesnt matter if youre an interpreter or a writer, its about delivering a song thats going to sear the listeners brain. You want to make some sort of emotional connection, Sayce says. The charismatic Sayce is a throwback. Thats evident after a spin of Influence.

Special offer! A digital download of Philip Sayce’s forthcoming album, Scorched Earth: Volume 1, is included with every ticket you order for this show. You will receive an email with instructions on how to receive your download following your ticket purchase.

Séan McCann

Séan McCann’s love for Newfoundland and Labrador folk songs shot him to international fame as a founding member of the renowned group Great Big Sea. After millions of albums sold, countless hit songs, and record breaking tours around the world, Séan realized that his 20 years with the band had to stop. Music is meant to connect, heal, and bring happiness. While Séan was giving that to thousands of people a night he was slowly losing his own way. Instead of seeking truth he was hiding behind his music. This was unfair to both himself and his fans so he left the band and started over.

In January 2014 Séan released his first post-GBS album. Produced by Joel Plaskett, “Help Your Self” is the sound of a man facing his demons and ultimately overcoming them. The songs helped him deal with his issues of addiction and abuse and showed him how to find strength in pain. It reminded him of the power of music which at one time would have been used to cast a Friday night spell over a sold out hockey arena on a Monday, but now finds him touring the country as a solo artist in intimate venues where he can sincerely connect with his audience in the way he always hoped to—face to face. Séan has also found himself using music as therapy, working with people who face physical, mental, and addiction challenges, and has become a sought after speaker trying to help others to help themselves find light through the darkness.
