Meredith Moon Presented by Market Hall
Thursday June 5 • 8 PM
Support Act: Lotus Wight
Join us in celebrating the release of Meredith Moon’s third album, “From Here to the Sea”, which takes a slight detour from the Appalachian old-time roots of its precursor, “Constellations”. Produced and recorded in Ontario and Nashville by Colin Linden (Lucinda Williams, T-Bone Burnett, Bruce Cockburn) and featuring Rebecca Lovell (Larkin Poe), Lillie Mae Rische & Dominic Davis (Jack White), Julian Taylor, Colin Linden, George Receli (Bob Dylan) and Jerry Douglas, the album takes avenues through blues, folk-rock and even old-time jazz. Moon’s signature instrument, the banjo, as well as the roots music that shaped her sound still make an appearance, but instead paint a background as she allows her songwriting to take centre stage. Joining her on this special evening will be her award-winning Canada-side band (as well as a few special guest cameos), along with an opening set from troubadour of Canadian Americana songwriting, and renowned banjoist, Lotus Wight.
Besides playing traditional tunes often 'non-traditionally', Moon presents a powerful voice and highly contemporary clawhammer banjo style which has gained acclaim within the international old-time music community. Moon incorporates finger-style guitar, piano and lap dulcimer, among other instruments, into her performance. Beginning in her teenage years in her friend's living rooms and DIY spaces, her audience has evolved throughout the last decade with many milestones under her belt. Moon has played many Canadian folk festivals, and has toured North America extensively, as well as Central America, the UK and Western and Eastern Europe. In 2022 she opened for her father on his last cross-Canada tour, and in 2024 she played NPR's Mountain Stage radio show. She has collaborated or shared the stage with countless notable musicians in the folk and roots music sphere.
